Charles Shea Lemone has done it again! His latest book, CORNER PRIDE, brought me back to my childhood in Philly, where I grew up next door to him. The gangs, friendships, and the games that were played then were simpler times when a fight meant just that, a fight with fists.
The characters came to life, as if I had known them all my life, such as Barry, who had the respect of all the “bad dudes” in Philly while growing up.
In order to survive, you had to belong to a gang. If you supported them, your “corner boys”, would lay down their lives for you.
Barry, Curley and the girls in their lives, reminded me of how tender those times were and yet, how painful love can be, even if you are only twelve or thirteen years old.
Shea has manage to show us how tough it was growing up in Philly, with sensitivity and eloquence. Kudos to Charles Shea Lemone!
